Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Attorneys in Los Angeles

What Is The Meeting of Creditors?

The Meeting of Creditors also known as the 341(a) Meeting is a meeting that is required in every bankruptcy case and occurs approximately 1 month after you file.  Every person that files for bankruptcy is required to attend.  Although your bankruptcy attorney will likely accompany you to the meeting, your bankruptcy attorney is not allowed to attend on your behalf.  You must show up at the creditors meeting.  The meeting of creditors usually takes around 10 minutes.  You are required to bring your driver’s license and proof of your social security number (usually social security card).  And you are required to provide the bankruptcy trustee with a copy of your most recent tax return prior to the meeting.

The meeting of creditors usually exposes any deficiencies in your bankruptcy petition.  That is why is important to hire a competent bankruptcy attorney for your bankruptcy.

Common questions most trustees ask include:

1. Have you ever filed for bankruptcy?

2. Have you transferred any property within the past 4 years?

3. Did you read the bankruptcy petition before you signed it?

4. Are there any changes you want to make to the bankruptcy petition?

5. Do you have any domestic support obligation?

These are just some of the most common questions during a meeting of creditors.  If you have any questions or would like to talk to a Burbank Bankruptcy Attorney call us at (818) 305-6200.
